DEMONSTRATION TRACKS
The voices demonstrated here are to be regarded as 'works in progress' with fine-tuning still be be worked at and register transitions smoothed out.
Sean
Background: C&W and original song band but wanting to explore the voice. The upper tenor range was undeveloped and the 'falsetto' not utilised. Now singing calisthenically from F to f# '' and also developing an authentic style for alto baroque arias; a rich baritone for songs like Vaughn Williams' 'The Vagabond' and the full tenor range is now appearing. The voice is still evolving and the path from low to high is rapidly becoming integrated.
Gregg
Background: Saxaphone player interested in developing vocal skills so as to increase his usefulness in the band situation. He thought and felt that 4th line D, reading as tenor, was a high note!. Over the span of about 16 months he has established his tenor range up to Bb, successfully bridged the gap between this note and the 'falsetto' to establish the alto range and has now taken this voice in incremental steps up to < c''' >(ie C on the 2nd leger-line above the soprano stave; this being the result of steady work with the calisthenic ideas and techniques - this voice was certainly not a 'given'.
Michael
Regarded as tone-deaf after his voice 'broke' he had a very limited-range baritone register which could not move above < c > (bass-clef 2nd space) Within the first two lessons we located his head-voice which began one third higher on < e >! and he successfully sang through the "Wet,Wet,Wet" number "Love Is All Around", a song which lay completely above that < e >. That proved that there was nothing wrong with his ear and, after years of not even being able to get the starting note of the hymns in church, to discover that he could indeed sing a tune was a total surprise. Of course the more difficult part was still to come - ie the building of the baritone voice by utilising what can only be described as the healing power of the falsetto. This has been achieved and he can now sing "The Vagabond" as strong baritone and follow that as light baritone for the next song in the cycle-"Let Beauty Awake" Now that the high voice has been taken to < g'' > (play demo) the tenor range is also settling into place. The progress of this voice can only be explained in terms of 'Sinus Tone Production' as defined by E G White. This is a vocal instrument that has been built almost from scratch, and is giving Michael great personal satisfaction and gives me as teacher considerable confidence in the efficacy of the ideas - a proof which comes most convincingly from working with those who think they cannot sing.
